George Rodger (1908–95) was a British photojournalist who was one of the first to photograph the death camps in Germany at the end of the war. He was an avid chronicler of the war, working for Life and then Time magazine.

Rodger’s images were horrific but also poignant in the way that they showed how ‘normality’ was perceived by those working in the death camps. The piles of corpses and the bodies lining the roadsides were images that shocked and revolted all who viewed them at the time. However 60 years later we view these images with
a greater understanding of how this situation came about as well as exposure to cinema and news images of the time.
